Be Grateful. Or Something.

So this semester of school I am enrolled in an online class called "Personal Achievement" and I think I talk about it a lot, especially on Facebook. But seriously guys, it is a class everyone should take. Each week we are required to read a chapter in the book called "Inner Victory" by David A. Christensen. Step by step, week by week, we learn a new way to get to know ourselves better, and help us become better people. This week, incidentally, we reached the chapter of gratitude.

Okay...I get it. Be grateful for what I have. Blah blah blah. Got it.

That's what I thought this chapter was going to be about, but as I continued reading I was actually brought to tears. In each chapter he has steps for the reader to take, and write down. By the end of the book, the reader will have a whole "Personal Creed Document". In this chapter specifically he broke down the following:

1. Who has ever made a positive impact in your life. (my answer was about almost 3 pages long, and I probably could have kept going).

2. What "switch points" or experiences have you had that have had an impact on the way you live your life. and...

3. Who in your life do you need to forgive? Are you one of them??

By breaking down the individual people I've met, the experiences I've had (good or bad), and the people and situations I may need to let go of and forgive, my eyes were opened to how grateful I need to be, and brought back memories to even the smallest acts of kindness from a stranger. It showed me that I need to have gratitude and appreciate people for who they are, despite their mistakes and shortcomings (INCLUDING MY OWN).

Overall, this lesson was very needed in my life. Sometimes I forget what I have, who I have, and the lessons I have learned. I have so many reasons to be grateful.

I really recommend this book to anyone looking for peace and clarity in their lives. Here is the link to where you can find it on Amazon:

I also recommend taking the steps, and writing down your answers. Don't be afraid to dig deep to get to know yourself just a little bit better.

Kaidyn Nicole.
