I've had a phrase stuck in my mind the past several weeks. It's a saying I have always believed in without a doubt:
"You Can Do Hard Things"
However, the reason this has been stuck in my head the past few weeks is not because of what the phrase says, but because of what the phrase doesn't say. In my opinion, I believe this saying is missing something very vital. Some may already get this from it, but I know that I haven't.
What if we added on to this phrase...
"You Can Do Hard Things....even if you need help"
Something I never really grasped until just now is that It is okay to receive help. It is okay to say "Ya know what, I am not really sure.." and "I don't know". All of that is completely 100% okay.
I have gotten to the point where in my head the phrase went something along the lines of: "You can do hard things...unless it's too hard and scary, then just take a nap." (but I mean, still treat yourself to naps, because they are great and I am not against them in any way shape or form.)
My mom and I had a conversation a few weeks ago about how it is okay that I am scared for the future, or stressed about it. She said "The really great thing about growing up is that you don't have to do it by yourself, even if it feels like it."
This is a concept I have set a goal to work on: To ask for help when I need it, AND NOT BE EMBARRASSED. Because that is a HUGE thing I haven't noticed within myself and even others. Sometimes we (I) don't go for things, or don't end up learning because we are too scared to ask a question in fear of looking dumb, or being ridiculed.
But here's the thing sweet cheeks (me talking to me)- EVERYONE HAS TO START SOMEWHERE.
No one just starts something and automatically is great at it (and if they do, well, just ignore them, because they're not normal.) You can do hard things, even if you need a little bit of help to get there. Do not be ashamed to ask a question, or call your mom because you don't know something. (Seriously, moms are the best. They know everything).
So overall,
Things get hard, and scary, and sometimes we need to ask for help from the Lord, or our moms, or a good friend, or even..sometimes we just need to take a good nap. But none the less, we (I) should not be afraid. We're not going to know the end result right away, and there is nothing wrong with that....as long as you remember: You CAN do hard things, even if you need help.
